Hi,
My name is Wendy and I’m a normal, unremarkable, forty something year old woman. The reason for this article is to air the views of a friend of mine, Danielle. In the hope that it may help other people experiencing the same emotions and trying to make the right decision for them.
Let me briefly tell you about Danielle. She is twenty three years old, average height, not overweight and in terms of this article, her most important measurement is 36B. Danielle would seemingly have everything going for her. She is young, by any criteria you choose she is beautiful and she has her own business. A beautician with her own premises, hence the reason I know her! With all these advantages and positive things in her life, Danielle should be enjoying the best time of her life with not a care in the world. Alas that is not the case. She is unhappy with her breasts and wants to have breast enlargement surgery to increase by two full cup sizes, to become a 36D.
The remainder of this article is in the form of a question and answer session.
Wendy: It’s an obvious question, but why do you want bigger breasts?
Danielle: There are two main reasons, I am unhappy with the shape of my breasts. At the moment they are too pointed and I would like the more appealing "tear drop" shape. Secondly, size is important and bigger is better.
Wendy: Why do you say bigger is better? Trying to be completely objective, you seem to be absolutely in proportion.
Danielle: Not if you watch television or look in any newspaper or magazine.
Wendy: So you feel under some "celebrity pressure"?
Danielle: Yes, I’d be lying to say otherwise, but it’s not just that. I do believe bigger looks better, clothes look better and that combination makes me feel better, more self confident.
Wendy: That’s interesting as your clothes seem to fit you perfectly well at the moment.
Danielle: Yes they do and there’s nothing particularly wrong with them at the moment, but there are two aspects to this. The outward image you present to the world and the way you feel inside. I feel bigger breasts certainly wouldn’t harm my outward image but they would significantly increase my inner well being and self confidence. That’s very important to me.
Wendy: Do you have any concerns about this procedure?
Danielle: Yes several! Unfortunately there is a history of breast cancer in my family so I would need to know if this operation could or would have any influence on the likely hood of my being affected by it. I’m concerned about the possibility of infection or my body rejecting the implants and the issue of scarring.
Wendy: So hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Danielle: Possibly, but that’s where a long detailed talk with the surgeon comes in. It’s a fact that surgery always carries with it some danger, but a great many of these operations have been carried out in the past, techniques and safety procedures are improving all the time. For example I know that in the past large incisions were made to various parts of the breast and in some case the nipple was completely removed and then sown back on! To the best of my knowledge, this is no longer the case. Also I believe that in most case you have the option of having the implant positioned in front or behind the muscle and all this from a smallish incision underneath the breast. Information is the key, I’m hopeful once everything is explained to me I’ll be happy to proceed.
Wendy: Do you have the support of your family in this?
Danielle: Yes and no. My mother wasn’t keen initially but understands how important this is to me and she wants to help any way she can. My father thinks it’s a waste of money but it’s my money, so he will also be there for me. I’m glad to have whatever support they can offer but in the end it is my decision. I am an individual and I have the final say over what happens to my body.
Wendy: You mentioned the dreaded "M" word, money. Have you investigated the costs?
Danielle: Yes, I can’t afford it! What I mean is I can’t afford it at the moment. I know I will have to save and little luxuries like this years and possibly next years holiday could be in jeopardy. It’s all about choices, what do you really want? What are you prepared to do to make those choices a reality? In my case the desire to have my breasts enhanced is great and I’m prepared to sacrifice a lot to make it happen.
Wendy: I can see that. I wish you well in the choices you have to make. Can we do this again in a few months to see how things have progressed for you?
Danielle: Of course, I’d be delighted to.
Wendy: Thanks for your time. Good Luck Danielle.
